Manage Syslog Server

You can set up Syslog Server to receive logs sent by Syslog clients. All logs will all be saved in Syslog Server's database.

To clear the logs

Delete logs in the database:

  1. Click Clear button.
  2. A dialog is shown to let users confirm this operation.
  3. Click Yes.

To save the logs

Click the Save button and the logs will be downloaded as a .html file to your local machine.

To refresh the logs

Click the Refresh button and the server status and the logs of the clients will be updated.

To set up Syslog Server

This is to set up your DiskStation as a system log server to receive logs from clients over the Internet. Follow the steps below for settings:

  1. Click the Settings button.
  2. Tick the Enable Syslog Server checkbox.
  3. Fill in the server port for receiving logs. The default port number is 514.
  4. Select the locations for saving log database.
  5. Select transfer mode. There are 2 modes - TCP and UDP.
  6. Tick Enable secure connection (SSL) to secure the syslog connection with encryption mechanism.
  7. Tick the Enable email notification to send an email when logs reach specified log level.
  8. Define the log level for email notification. There are 4 combinations: Emergency, Alert-Emergency, Critical-Alert-Emergency and Error-Critical-Alert-Emergency.
  9. Select the log rotation conditions. There are 5 conditions: Never, Six months, One year, Two year and Three year. Log messages older than the specified period will be delete automatically.
  10. Click OK to complete the settings.
    Note:
  1. Secure connection is only available for the TCP transfer protocol.
  2. Only BSD formatted logs are supported.
  3. You can click the button to export the certificate for setting up syslog client.
