Advanced

On the Advanced page, you can modify service settings and update Device Pack.

Service

Under the Service tab, you can set your Synology NAS as a host server or a recording server to form a larger surveillance network with the central management mechanism. You can also set up a local display solution to enjoy the rich features of Surveillance Station without the need to constantly keep a computer running.

Central Management System (CMS)

Central management system (CMS) allows a host server to see the live view and recordings of all the recording servers paired with it. Once you have set up a CMS host, you can go to Management > Server to add recording servers and manage them with the CMS service.

To set your Synology server as either a host server or a recording server, tick Enable central management system (CMS) and choose Be a host server or Be a recording server.

What is video relay over the Internet and what does it do?

If a CMS host and its recording servers are communicating via internal IP, you might encounter technical issues receiving video feeds of recording servers over the Internet.

Therefore, when using a web browser to access a central management system from a different domain, you will need a relay service to receive cross-domain video feeds from recording servers. For example, with video relay service enabled, you can watch videos of the recording servers located on your office network even if you are at home.

How to prevent users on a recording server from making changes without my permission?

You can restrict access to the settings of a recording server by preventing users from performing any operations after login. admin or users belonging to the administrators group on the recording server will only have access to the Service page, where they can modify this option afterwards. Users without administrative privileges will not be able to view or modify any settings after login.

How to synchronize the time on a recording server with CMS host?

Tick the checkbox to allow time synchronization between a recording server and CMS host via the NTP service. The original time settings on the recording server can be restored after canceling this option.

Unrecognized Camera Settings

In this section, you can determine how to manage recordings of unrecognized cameras when space or time limit is reached, and thus utilize your recording storage much more effectively.

If you want to modify the rule, go to Management > IP Camera, double click on the desired camera, and then go to the Recording tab > Archive Rotation Settings.
