Getting Started
Synology Surveillance Station Client is a PC client application which allows you to sign in to Surveillance Station running on a Synology NAS/NVR product. With Synology Surveillance Station Client, you can fully control and manage your Surveillance Station packages, such as setting up IP cameras, watching live-view channels from your IP cameras, and play back recordings on Timeline.
Before diving further in, the following sections will help you get acclimated to the Synology Surveillance Station Client user interface.
Signing in to Surveillance Station with Synology Surveillance Station Client
To sign in to Surveillance Station from Synology Surveillance Station Client:
- Launch the application, and do either of the following:
- Enter the following information on the login page, and click Sign in:
- Address or QuickConnect ID of the Synology server: this can be either the internal or external IP address, DDNS hostname, or Synology QuickConnect ID. Make sure you have enabled QuickConnect at Control Panel > QuickConnect in DSM before logging in with QuickConnect ID.
- Your account credentials.
- Click the search button next to Address or QuickConnect ID to launch the search window. You can select the previous login credentials from the list in the History tab, or search for Synology NAS/NVR products in your local area network from the Search tab. After the selection, go back to login page, and click Sign in.
- To secure your connection, do the following:
- Tick the HTTPS option to establish the connection with SSL/TLS encryption.
- If the installed certificate is taken for not trusted (e.g., self-signed certificate), a warning message will then display. You can either click Proceed anyway to ignore it, or import a trusted certificate purchased from a third-party issuer to your Synology product.
Troubleshooting:
If you fail to sign in, do the following:
- Sign in to DSM as admin (or a user belonging to the administrators group), and go to Control Panel > Privileges to check if the user account is given permissions to use Surveillance Station.
- Check if the DSM is using a port other than the default. For example, if the port is 9920, you may need to append the port number to the IP address/DDNS hostname as in [your.host.com:9920].
