PDF Viewer
PDF Viewer offers you a quick, straightforward overview of .pdf files stored on your Synology NAS. You can also share the .pdf files with shared links and protect them from unwanted access, download, and distribution.
Note:
- If you use PDF Viewer with Internet Explorer, only Internet Explorer 9 (or above) is supported.
To open .pdf files:
- Go to PDF Viewer, and click Open (the folder icon) on the toolbar.
- Find and select the desired .pdf file, and click Select. If the file is password-protected, you also need to enter the password for verification.
- Both the pages and thumbnails will be displayed by default. To show/hide thumbnails, click Show Thumbnails.
To adjust content display:
You can adjust content display in the ways below:
- To have larger/smaller display of the content: Click Zoom In and Zoom Out on the toolbar.
- To change content scale: Click the drop-down scale menu on the toolbar. Select a predefined scale ratio or an option from Auto Scale to Fit Page Width.
- To rotate content display: Click Rotate Clockwise or Rotate Counterclockwise to rotate the content by 90 degrees in the specified direction.
To view outlines of .pdf files:
If you have created outlines for a .pdf file, you can quickly reach the desired page with its outlines.
- Click Show Thumbnails on the toolbar.
- Click Outlines to show the outline structure.
- Click the entry in the outlines to go to the desired page.
To use the select tool and hand tool:
When viewing .pdf files, you can switch between the select tool and the hand tool to suit your needs:
- Click the Select Tool or the Hand Tool on the toolbar:
- Select Tool (the arrow icon): You can select, highlight, or copy the content.
- Hand Tool (the hand icon): You can drag and pull the pages in the desired directions.
To search content by keywords:
- Click Search (the magnifying glass icon) and enter the keywords.
- To locate case-sensitive matches, select Match case.
- The search will begin in real time and mark the matches in the content.
- Click < or > to jump to the previous or next match.
To view metadata:
Click More > View Info to find the relevant information from Size to Page count.
To download .pdf files:
Click More > Download to download the .pdf file to the local computer.
To view and download attachments:
If your .pdf file comes with attachments, you can view and download the attachments.
- Click Show Thumbnails on the toolbar
- Select Attachments. The attachments will appear in the left panel.
- Click the attachments to download the attached files.
To print .pdf files:
Click Print (the printer icon) and specify relevant settings for the printout.
Managing Shared Links
To create shared links:
You can share the .pdf files stored on your Synology NAS via shared links. Shared links can also be protected by password/user credentials to avoid unwanted access.
- Click More on the toolbar, and select Share.
- Click Validity period to customize duration of the shared link:
- Set up stop time: Select this option to determine by date and time when the link stops to work.
- Set up start time: Select this option to determine by date and time when the link starts to work.
- Number of allowed access: Select this option to determine how many times the link can be accessed.
- To protect the link from unwanted access, select Enable secure sharing:
- Share with DSM users: Select this option to decide which DSM user can access the .pdf file with the user credentials.
- Share with others: Select this option to set up a password to allow access from non-DSM users.
- To avoid unwanted download and distribution of the .pdf file, select Disable document download. The .pdf file will also be denied the printing function.
- Spread the shared link via a method below:
- Simply copy the URL to target viewers.
- Send out the link via the Default Email (your DSM email account) or via Mail (a third-party email application). For first-time users, follow the wizard's instructions to set up an email account for use.
- Click Get QR Code to allow access via the QR code.
- Click Save to complete the setup.
To modify existing shared links:
- Click More > Settings > Manage Shared Links.
- Select the desired shared link, and click Edit to modify relevant settings.
Note:
- You can limit sharing permissions to administrators only at More > Settings > Advanced.
To delete shared links:
Deleted shared links will immediately stop working.
- Click More > Settings > Manage Shared Links.
- Delete unwanted shared links in either way below:
- To delete individual shared links: Select the unwanted shared link, and click Delete.
- To delete all invalid links: Click Clear invalid links to delete all invalid and overdue shared links.
