SMTP (* administrator only)

To enable SMTP:

  1. Tick Enable SMTP to deliver and receive mails.
  2. Select your Mail Server account type from the Account Type drop-down menu. The default account type for local users is Local. If domain/LDAP is enabled on the DiskStation, you can also choose domain/LDAP.
  3. If Authorization required for mail clients except Mail Station is ticked, you need to provide your DiskStation user account and password for authentication when setting SMTP server for mail clients aside from Mail Station.
  4. Take Outlook Express for example, you can enable the option at My server requires authentication in Tools > Accounts > Mail Account > Properties > Servers. It is recommended that you enable this option to avoid being a Spammer.
  5. Limit email size by specifying Maximum size per email.
  6. If Enable SMTP-SSL is ticked, SSL secure connection will be supported when sending emails.
  7. If Ignore authorization for LAN connections is ticked, all connections except for LAN connections will have to provide user account and password for authentication.

To enter a domain name for Mail Server:

Fill in the Domain name field. If you would like to set a user's mail address as user@synology.com, then you need to specify the Domain name as synology.com.

To configure multiple domain names on Mail Server:

You can map multiple domain names to Mail Server (e.g. synology.com, synology.com.tw, and synology.com.us) and allow users to receive mail sent to various addresses (e.g. user@synology.com, user@synology.com.tw, or user@synology.com.us).

To send mails via other SMTP Relay server:

Most ISPs block or reject mails from unknown domains. If you cannot send mails directly from your own domain, you may have to send them through well-known SMTP servers. You can configure SMTP Relay server on your Mail Server.

  1. Tick Enable SMTP Relay.
  2. Specify SMTP Server name and Port.
  3. Tick Always use a secure connection to provide encrypted connections when relaying mails.

If Authorization required is ticked, you need to provide account and password for SMTP Relay server to authenticate your mail server.
