To edit the IP address of this machine:
Synology Directory Server is normally set up with a static IP. For certain reasons, you may need to change the IP address of your Synology NAS that is running Synology Directory Server. Please follow the steps below:
- Back up your Synology Directory Server with Hyper Backup package.
Note: For detailed steps to create a backup task, please see this article.
- Change the IP address of this machine.
- Confirm and update the resource records in DNS Server package. For more information, please check up on the section of Synology Directory Server and DNS Resource Records below.
- Restart Synology Directory Server.
Synology Directory Server and DNS Resource Records
In order that Synology Directory Server can normally deliver services, all A/AAAA resource records in DNS Server must correctly point to the IP address of this machine. When a domain is created with Synology Directory Server, all A/AAAA resource records will point to the IP address of this machine by default.
However, A/AAAA resource records may not properly point to this machine under any of the following circumstances:
- This machine undergoes a change in IP address after the domain has been created with Synology Directory Server.
- Synology Directory Server is restored with a backup task of Hyper Backup package.
When encountering the cases mentioned above, please follow the steps below.
To check and update resource records in DNS Server:
- Go to DNS Server package > Zones.
- Select the concerned DNS zone (e.g. [domain name]@Active Directory or _msdcs.[domain]@Active Directory), and click Edit > Resource Record.
- Check the IP address set up in the A and AAAA types of resource records. Make sure all the records point to this machine or the correct server.
Note: To batch edit, you can press and hold Ctrl or Shift to select multiple resource records of the same type but with different names.
