Antivirus Essential

Antivirus Essential is a free and full-featured antivirus application which can be easily installed to safeguard your DiskStation in the background. It checks for updates automatically and schedules the scan while your DiskStation is not in use to maximize your DiskStation's performance.

See the sections below to learn how to configure the following settings of your Antivirus Essential.

Overview

You can keep track of how your DiskStation is doing and scan DiskStation files by clicking Overview on the left panel.

To check the system status:

Known restrictions for the ClamAV engine:

  1. Files larger than 4096MB will not be scanned.
  2. The probability of success for finding viruses hidden in archive files (such as ZIP, RAR, ARJ, Tar, Gzip, Bzip2) will be lower.
  3. Remote Folders (CIFS) mounted in File Station will not be scanned during full scan.

Quarantine and Logs

When a virus is detected and processed by Antivirus Essential, it will be moved to the Quarantine section. You may also click Logs on the left panel to see more details.

Click Quarantine on the left panel, and follow the instructions here to add the selected files to the white list.

Scheduled Scan

By default, Antivirus Essential runs a scan of your DiskStation once a week when your DiskStation is not in use (for example, 01:00 am on Saturday). If you want to adjust this, click the Scheduled Scan to reschedule your scans.

To create a scheduled scan:

  1. Click Create and specify the type, date, and time of your scan.
  2. Click OK and then click Save.

To enable or disable a schedule:

Tick or deselect the checkbox next to the schedule to enable or disable it.

To modify a schedule:

  1. Select the schedule, click Edit and specify the date, time and type of your scan.
  2. Click OK and then click Save.

To remove schedules:

  1. Select the schedules and click Delete.
  2. Click Save to apply the changes.

Update

By default, Antivirus Essential updates virus definitions regularly to ensure your DiskStation is under the best protection. To adjust this, click Update on the left panel.

To manage how Antivirus Essential perform updates, do any of the following:

If you want to determine how Antivirus Essential handles detected threats or exclude or include certain files during scan, click Settings on the left panel.

To specify the default processing method when viruses are found:

Choose an option in the Default Processing Method section, and then click Apply.

To scan certain types of files only:

  1. Tick Only scan specific file types, and click Extension list to add the file extensions to the list.
  2. Click Close and Apply to finish.

To have the system automatically update virus definitions before starting each scanning process:

Tick Update virus definition before scanning, and then click Apply.
